HANDMADE SHELLAC
Seedlac, is filled Into a long, narrow cloth bag. One end of the bag is held in front of the charcoal oven while the other end is attached to a windlass Is gradually turned. The molten lac is scraped out and mixed thoroughly to easure uniformity and transferred to a block of molten lac on the surace of a smooth porcelain cylinder filled with hot water.
Standing In front of fire, the workman so manipulates the sheet as to heat it uniformly and then scratches It with his hands, legs and mouth. It Is pulled in all directions to produce a sheet of Shellac.

MACHINE MADE SHELLAC
Shellac is obtained through melting seedlas by steam heat and squeezing the soft molten lac through filter by means of hydraullc presses.
The molten lac Is then stretched by means of rollers into long and continuous sheets which is broken into pleces to form the machine-made shellac under heat process.

DEWAXED SHELLAC
Shellac Is obtained by dissolving Seedlar in a sultable solvent, (industrial alcohol) which is then filtered through fine cloth and the alcohol is recovered by distillation process. The molten shellac is then stretched to Itself the required thickness on a roller Into continuous sheets which is broken into pieces on cooling. The solvent process lends Itself to manufacture of different types shellac containing varying percentage of shellac wax. Dewaxed or partly dewaxed shellac may be manufactured by this process. The Impurity content may be as low as 0.2%.

DEWAXED BLEACHED SHELLAC
Seedlas, Is dissolved in an aqueous-alkall solution fillltered,dewaxed and bleached with Sodium Hypochlorite to the desired color The sheilacys then precipitated from the solution with Sulphuric acid and dried.
Application
Frult & chocolate coating, capsules & tablets coating in pharmaceuticals, varnishes for paints and printing inks, wood coatings, hot stiffening, cosmetics, electrical industries etc.
SEEDLAC
Sticklac Is first crushed and sieved to remove certain Impurities. It Is then washed in large vats or barrels to remove Insect bodies and a portion of the colouring matter. Washing is repeated until the dye and most of the impurities are removed. The Sticklas thus cleaned is spread on large clean open air floor to dry. After drying it Is winnowed and sieved to get the commercial varlety of Seedlas. It contains around 3-5% Impurity.
Seedlas, as mostly used for conversion into Bleached Lac and different types of Shellac.
